WHAT DO THE TERMS JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, RASTER, CI, PG & BG MEAN?
- JPEG: Compressed image file suitable for online viewing (versus printing).
- TIFF: Raster-based image file that holds a lot of data without loss of quality. Your base file from which you make copies. Never work from your actual TIFF—Duplicate it to make your various sized JPEGs, PNGs, etc. Backup your TIFF when you receive it.
- PNG: A digital file with a transparent background. A PNG allows you to wrap type close to your illustration and free place your character. PNGs are especially useful for blog posts and for creating promotion tools like stickers, T-shirts, magnets, etc.
- GIF: An animated image file. We specialize in advertisement GIFs featuring your book cover alternatively blinking with your tag line, character and/or place of purchase.
- RASTER: Pixel-based digital image (Photoshop), versus vector-based images, which are made up of lines and curves. (Adobe Illustrator)
- Most online images—photography and art are raster-based. Vector images are used primarily for graphic logo design and print work.
- CI: Character Illustration
- PG: Postground- Background art for a social media posts and ads.
- BG: Bannerground- Background art for social media headers or banners
